Friends and family of Rita Karpie have established a private foundation in her name called the "Rita Karpie Beach Overlook Fund."
Donations to the fund will be used to add an observation platform, featuring handicapped-accessible seating, to the newly renovated beach crossover area at Ocean Park in Melbourne Beach.
The addition of such a platform was something Ms. Karpie expressed a strong desire for during recent commission meetings.
Any leftover funds in the foundation will be donated to the Sea Turtle Conservancy for the benefit of the Barrier Island Management and Education Center in Melbourne Beach, a facility also supported by Ms. Karpie.
